Westbrook’s historic production this season hasn’t changed Cuban’s stance that the Oklahoma City Thunder point guard falls short of superstar status, an opinion Cuban originally stated just before Westbrook went off for 36 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists in a first-round Game 5 that ended Dallas’ 2016 postseason.
Cuban said Sunday that the MVP battle is a “toss-up” between Houston‘s James Harden and Cleveland‘s LeBron James, with San Antonio‘s Kawhi Leonard also deserving of mention in the conversation. Where is Westbrook in the mix?”
Alright, so I hope we are all on the same page on this take being absolutely absurd. I’m not even going to give it the time of day to consider it being a “hot take” because it is too hot. It is so hot that it has already melted away all of the potential credibility the speaker ever had. This is the craziest thing I have heard since whatever the last bit of news to come out of North Korea was (not 100% sure what, but it’s all batshit insane). This is one of those takes so stupid that it makes me think Skip Bayless said it, and then when I realize it wasn’t him (or his counterpart, Shannon Sharpe, for that matter) I get overwhelmingly confused that there is another person on this planet that insufferably stupid, and I am forced to take a nap. During my nap I had a few dreams where I was in flying cars fighting bad guys, but when I woke up, I had a moment where I thought they were real because I remembered what Mark Cuban said, and I thought, “if someone can be that dumb, then surely anything is possible.” So here are a few things that Mark Cuban said in his interview that would have been far less idiotic about today’s NBA.
“Stephen A. Smith is the best analyst in basketball. He constantly says things at normal volumes and always makes his point clear.”
“Kyrie’s handles are just ok”
“It isn’t fun to watch James Harden play”
“Steph isn’t a top three point guard”
“The Clippers are still good without Chris Paul”
“Markelle Fultz is a low-skill guard that will not succeed in the NBA”
“The Pelicans can beat the Warriors in a 7 game series”
“Enes Kanter is an adequate defender”
“I am not one of the three most annoying owners in the league and it totally makes sense why I go to the huddle every once in awhile”
“PJ Guippone could probably make a D-League Roster”
“Isaiah Thomas isn’t short”
I think you guys get the point. Mark Cuban isn’t a smart man sometimes.
