Ah, the last day of the regular season. All regular season play is done after this and it’s a bittersweet feeling. On one hand, conference tournaments are maybe better than the actual NCAA tournament because for a lot of these small conference schools, it is win or go home. It’s a battle of heart out there and we already saw Jacksonville State punch their ticket, while breaking the heart of UT Martin. On the other hand, gambling is getting even more dangerous. It’s not to be messed with, but it’s an addiction that isn’t easy to kick, so let’s mess with it.
If you listened to me yesterday, you didn’t lose money. In fact, you made it. Florida State ended up covering against Miami, but the backdoor was very much open, so I hope you steered clear. Kansas won behind Frank Mason and his massive stones. And Duke pushed. That’s a killer, but, look on the bright side, it’s better than losing money. Now, let’s check out today’s games.
We’ve been blessed with the easiest bet of all time today: Campbell +13. The Fighting Camels take on Winthrop at 1 o’clock in the Big South Final. Jack has already told you why the Big South is the best conference in America and he’s also told me that Campbell will upset Gonzaga for the first 16 seed upset, so what else must I say? Chris Clemons is on a mission. He is hellbent on getting the Fighting Camels to the Dance. Imagine that: a dancing fighting camel. That’s wild man. Regardless, +13 is absolutely absurd. Take the points, shit, take the moneyline. +700 Campbell. Lock that in.
Now that you have a shit ton of money in your wallet thanks to Chris Clemons dropping 50 points on the Eagles, you can throw money around. Where should it be thrown? Let’s check out the Purdue-Northwestern game. Northwestern is set to join Jacksonville State by heading to the Big Dance for the first time in the school’s history. Meanwhile, Purdue has been in the top 25 all year and is the favorite to win the Big 10. Purdue is favored by 4 here, despite being on the road. I’m picking Purdue by a nice margin in this game. The Boilermakers have Caleb Swanigan, who is an absolute monster on the boards, and he isn’t even their tallest player. Northwestern’s leading rebounder is only pulling down 5.9 boards per game. I think Purdue will crash the glass and beat Northwestern handily. Purdue -4.
If you’re really desperate to gamble a little more, Fort Wayne takes on Omaha in the quarterfinal for the Summit League. The Mastodons of Fort Wayne are favored by 3 against the Mavericks of Omaha. I know literally nothing about these teams, but I really love the song “Omaha”, by the Counting Crows. +3 Omaha. Go Mavs.
Those are the only games that I can give really good insight into(even if the last one isn’t what you consider good insight). That’s not to say I won’t be watching some small conference tournaments. I will always be watching those. That’s my life. I feel for those players on UT Martin that lost and don’t have any hope of getting an at large bid. It was all over for them. That’s what makes those games so great. So for the next week, sit back, relax, and watch some ballers battle it out for a chance to get decimated by a 1 seed.
